The Hungarian Local Studies Group was established in 1994 in Vác, a historic city north of Budapest on the Danube Bend, in response to a wish of librarians responsible for local studies collections to confer with their colleagues about common issues and concerns

The Group is a professional branch of the Association of Hungarian Librarians

Aims:

  • to encourage members of the Local Studies Group to work towards the highest standards of professional practice
  • to provide important forums for communication, debate, and training in all areas of local studies librarianship
  • to assist local studies librarians in developing local studies librarianship
  • to co-operate with colleagues in associated public collections, museums and archives and in special organizations, associations
  • to foster international links with Hungarian librarians working in the field of local studies in neighbouring countries and also with the LA Local Studies Group in Britain
